Armenian Woman, 1910

    I find this photo incredibly affecting: she looks quite ghostly, and the colours are so intense that the image looks like something from a dream.

    This is from a collection of photos (found at the above link) taken between 1909 and 1912 by a photographer commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II to undertake a photographic study of the Russian Empire. I find to quite hard to believe that this image, and the others, were taken a full century ago.

     I really recommend looking at the others, there's something quite special and quite eerie about them all, and I'm pretty sure there's a story to be extracted from each of the person's eyes.
